We try and run two Ocean diver courses and one Sports diver course per year, along with various Skill Development courses. The club has full sets of kit for pool use to utilize during your training. 

The instructors at the club don’t rush anybody to complete their diver training, and you will have help at all times no matter how long it can take

 

 


 

 


Outline of Ocean Diver Course

The Ocean Diver Award is the BSAC's first diving grade awarded.

Following the completion of a series of Classroom Lessons, Sheltered Water Lessons and Open Water Lessons, the award of Ocean Diver prepares the diver to enjoy their diving experience to a maximum of 20m and without incurring decompression stops.

Definition of an Ocean Diver

An Ocean Diver is defined as a diver who is competent to conduct dives:

 * With another Ocean Diver or with a Sports Diver, within the restrictions of the conditions already encountered during their training

* With a Dive Leader or higher grade, to expand their experience beyond the conditions encountered during their training, under the supervision of a Dive Manager.

* To a depth which is initially limited to the maximum experienced during training, but which can subsequently be extended progressively, under the supervision of a Nationally Qualified Instructor (NQI), to a maximum of 20m

* Using breathing gas mixes of Air, Nitrox32 or Nitrox36

* Not requiring mandatory decompression stops

* Under the on-site supervision of a Dive Manager with respect to site selection, conditions and dive plan where other divers, capable of providing assistance and rescue, are available at the surface

* Within BSAC safe diving recommendations

Assessment Components

An Ocean Diver must successfully complete the following components:

1. Attend lessons on diving knowledge

2. Demonstrate a level of diving knowledge through a written Theory Paper

3. Demonstrate their practical ability with a range of basic diving skills

4. Demonstrate competence in planning and conducting a simple dive

5. Demonstrate they have developed a suitable level of competence in their personal Rescue Skills including CBL and supporting an unconscious casualty


Outline of Sports Diver Course

 

The Sports Diver Award is the BSAC's second diving grade awarded.

Following the completion of a series of Classroom Lessons, Sheltered Water Lessons, Open Water Lessons and a Dry Practical Lesson, the award of Sports Diver prepares the diver to extend their diving experience to dives down to a maximum depth of 35m.

Definition of a Sports Diver

A Sports Diver is defined as a diver who is competent to:

* Conduct dives with an Ocean Diver within the restrictions of the conditions already encountered by the Ocean Diver during their training, and under the supervision of a Dive Manager

* Conduct dives with another Sports Diver, within the restrictions of the conditions already encountered during their training or previous experience

* Conduct dives with a Dive Leader or higher grade, to expand their experience beyond that previously encountered, under the supervision of a Dive Manager

* Dive to a depth which is initially limited to 20m, but which can subsequently be extended progressively, under the supervision of a Nationally Qualified Instructor (NQI), to a maximum of 35m

* Use breathing gas mixes up to Nitrox 36

* Plan and conduct dives requiring mandatory decompression stops

* Rescue a casualty and provide Basic Life Support

* Conduct dives where other divers, capable of providing assistance and rescue management skills, are available at the surface

* Conduct dives within BSAC safe diving recommendations

Assessment Components

A Sports Diver must successfully complete the following components:

1. Attend lessons on diving knowledge

2. Demonstrate a level of diving knowledge through a written Theory Paper

3. Demonstrate their practical ability with a range decompression related skills

4. Demonstrate they have developed a suitable level of competence in their personal Rescue Skills including Basic Life Support

5. Demonstrate an understanding of their role in assisting with the organisation and management of a day’s diving
